happy nine months, Vivi

Your daddy summed up my thoughts quite nicely this evening when he was holding you by saying “I am just so obsessed with her.”  I could hear that tinge in his voice that told me he was staring into your eyes and was seriously tempted to squeeze the daylights out of you.  I feel that a hundred times a day.  You are breathtakingly beautiful.  Your bright blue eyes and long eyelashes.  Your perfectly smooth skin and sweet little lips.  You are so precious.

What you weigh –12 lbs. 6.5oz.

What you eat – Still nursing full time.  You are doing better everyday with your solids.  You still make a face the first time we put pretty much anything in your mouth, including your favorites.  But you’re eating pretty well, and your weight gain shows it!  Your favorite foods are avocado mixed with a little bit of fruit and sweet potatoes.  I have to say – you are pretty picky.  I am taking it on myself to make you and bubba the best eaters possible by introducing as many new foods as I can.  But you are a stubborn little thing (like your mama) and if you don’t like it, you absolutely will not open your mouth.  Your least favorite things seem to be plain yogurt and lentils.  We’ll keep trying new things as much as possible, though, and hopefully with time you’ll start liking more and more.  Right now you are eating solids at lunch and dinner.  We’ll probably start eating breakfast sometime soon.

How you sleep – You are now sleeping from about 8 or 8:30 until 7:30 or 8.  Most days you take 3 naps.  Your naps are usually about and hour to an hour and a half, sometimes longer, sometimes a little shorter.  Your morning nap is usually on the longer side.  We are still swaddling you with one arm out.  This past week you’ve been on a bit of a nap strike.  You’ll sleep in your swing, but you just don’t want to be in your bed.  I think it may have something to do with teething maybe?  Either way, I’m assuming it’s just a phase, and things will be back to normal soon.

What you wear – You’re mostly wearing 3-6 now, with the occasional 0-3 in something that runs big.  The only shoe you wear is your pink converse…they are huge on your little foot, but because they’re hightops and they tie we make them work!

Diaper –  Bum Genius Freetime with one row of snaps left open in the middle.

Favorite activities – playing peek-a-boo, playing with my earrings (and anyone else who is wearing any), chewing on things, taking baths

Least favorite activities: having your face cleaned, being wrapped up in a towel when you get out of the bath, you don’t mind getting strapped into your carseat as much now because we took the thick padding out of it….but you still don’t like it per se.
Big moments in your fifth month of life –  first tooth, first family vacation, first time to the mountains, first big snow (in Colorado), started eating dairy (plain yogurt), slept in your own bed the entire night, started sleeping separately from bubba at night, gave up your dream feed, first trip to the zoo

happy nine months, baby boy

I literally would be thrilled if you just stayed this age forever…you are so much fun.  Lately, you laugh at anything and everything all the time.  I can give you just the slightest funny look and you will crack up.  When I get you laughing really hard, I look into your eyes and can never believe that you are truly mine.  I’m the luckiest mama in the world!

What you weigh – 14 lbs. 7 oz.

What you eat
  – Still nursing the same amount minus the dream feed.  And you’re still eating solids like a champ!  We still have moments where we wonder if we should cut you off, haha.  You can really put away the food, baby boy.  Some new foods we’ve tried this month are asparagus, prunes, oatmeal, parsnips, leeks and a few others.  You like most things, and will eat at least some of almost anything we give you.  You still really don’t like peas, though.  You are your daddy’s son I supposeJ  We’ve moved up to eating both lunch and dinner now, and we’ll probably add in breakfast sometime soon.  You are so cute when you eat because you get so excited.  You breathe really hard and wave your arms and legs up and down.

How you sleep –You have been a perfect little sleeper this month.  Now that you aren’t having a dream feed anymore, you sleep almost 12 hours at night from about 8:30 ish to 7:30 ish.  You still take three naps, each one being an average of an hour and a half, sometimes shorter sometimes longer.  A week or so ago we had to put you down for the night for the first time unswaddled, and you didn’t skip a beat!  So now we have completely done away with the swaddle, and you seem like such a big boy when you sleep.  We put you down on your tummy as you seem to like it best, but throughout your naps/the night you roll and move all over your crib into all kinds of positions.  CuteJ

What you wear – 3-6 month clothes, some of which are getting a little tight!  You have had a serious growth spurt this month and have gotten noticeably bigger and heavier!  Your feet are also getting bigger, and you can just barely wear a size two.  They’re a little big, but have just enough room for you to grow into them.

Diaper – BumGenius Freetime with one to two rows of snaps left open in the middle.  Your diaper started leaking out the top overnight, and we couldn’t figure out why, so we started putting a hemp insert in at night.  Although, the last couple of nights we didn’t, and you did fine.

Favorite activities –Eating, standing up (with assistance), reaching for things, taking your bath, cuddling with mama or daddy, sitting up, being tickled, reading books, laughing, singing “if you’re happy and you know it”,

Least favorite activities – having your face cleaned and your nose blown.  You despise those two things, but that’s about it!

Big moments in your eighth month of life – first vacation (to Colorado), started eating dairy (plain yogurt), first big snow (in CO), first trip to the mountains, first time to sleep in your own bed all night, quite the dream feed, started sleeping separately from sissy at night, first trip to the zoo

happy 8, viv

One of the things I’m most excited about is seeing your personality emerge more and more.  Your likes, dislikes, personality quirks – I love seeing you become more and more you and discovering who you are.  You are precious, sweet baby, and the Lord has made you so special and unique, exactly how He wants you.  I want you to always believe that.  You are perfectly created by Him.  Your daddy and I adore you.  And you are going to do amazing things.

What you weigh –11 lbs. 5 oz.

What you eat – Still nursing full time.  And now you’ve started solids!  We started them just a few days into your eighth month.  At first you really didn’t want anything in your mouth. You’d make the worst (but cutest!) face every time I’d stick anything in your mouth.  All you wanted was to suck on your fingers.  I’d put a spoonful of food in your mouth, and like a reflex your fingers would go straight in your mouth.  It would make the biggest mess!  You did this for several weeks, and I would have to hold your little hand throughout your whole meal.  Finally, right about the time you turned 8 months, you stopped doing that. Your favorites foods are sweet potatoes, carrots and avocado with a little bit of apple mixed in.  WE’ve also tried green beans, peas, bananas, pears, barley, squash, plums, I’ve tried to do some baby led weaning with you, but you aren’t quite sure what to do with a piece of banana yet.  You sure like to play with it though!  So, we’re doing purees for now.  You are eating a lot more now than the first few weeks, but honestly you still act like you just don’t really want anything in your mouth, even your favorites will bring a look of disbelief on your face when they first go in.  You are a funny babyJ  Right now we are doing one meal a day around lunch time.

How you sleep – You are sleeping just perfectly.  You go down at about 8-8:30 each night and sleep until about 7 am.  I still pull you out of bed at about 10:30 and feed you, but you don’t wake up for it.  Most days you take 3 naps.  We’ve dropped your fourth one for the most part, but if we go out and you miss one during the day sometimes you’ll take it.   Your naps are usually about and hour to an hour and a half, sometimes longer, sometimes a little shorter.  Your morning nap is usually on the longer side.  We are still swaddling you with one arm out.

What you wear – You’re still wearing a mix of 0-3 and 3-6 depending on what it is. Pants are all 3-6 because of your giant diaper.  Onesies are 3-6 for the most part, although you can still technically wear your 0-3.  They are really getting too short, especially the sleeves, but I still put my favorites on your sometimes.  Sweaters and dresses are definitely still 0-3.  You are our perfectly tiny girl.

Diaper –  Bum Genius Freetime with one row of snaps left open in the middle.

Favorite activities – being tickled, sucking on your fingers, sitting up (!), playing with bubba, grabbing people’s faces, chewing on things, swinging, bathtime, hanging upside down, playing peek-a-boo

Least favorite activities: having your face cleaned, being wrapped up in a towel when you get out of the bath, getting strapped into your carseat

Big moments in your fifth month of life – started babbling consonants (m’s – mamamama), started using a sippy cup (really just playing with it stillJ), started solids, first snow

you’re 8 months old, baby Linc

You are such a happy baby, and you laugh so much.  I am so excited for our relationship to grow more and more as you get older.  I think you are going to be just like your daddy, and I couldn’t be happier about that.  I love you so much Lincoln, and I thank God every day that he has let me be your mama for the best 8 months of my life.

What you weigh – 12 lbs. 11 oz.

What you eat
  – Still nursing the same amount!  Also started solids this month!  We’ve tried bananas, apples, plums, pears, green beans, brown rice, peas, barley, carrots, squash, sweet potatoes, avocado.   Your favorites are sweet potatoes and avocado with a little apple mixed in.  Your least favorites are peas and green beans.  I keep trying to get you to eat them because I want you to like greens so much.  Hopefully you’ll start liking them more soon.  Right now we are only doing one meal a day around lunchtime.  You are such a little gentleman when you eat.  You rarely try to grab the spoon or put your hands in your face or anything.  You are super easy to feed most days.  I’m so excited for when you start wanting to feed yourself, but for now we’re just taking it nice and easy.

How you sleep –You go to sleep at about 8 or 8:30 at night and aside from us pulling you out of bed for your dreamfeed, you sleep until about 7 or 7:30.  Naps are great these days.  You take your first one around 9, your second one around 12:30 and your third one around 3:30.  They’re usually around an hour and a half, give or take 30 minutes.  You’ll sleep swaddled or unswaddled, which comes in handy when I need to wash your swaddle!

What you wear – 3-6 month clothes!

Diaper – BumGenius Freetime with one row of snaps left open in the middle

Favorite activities –Eating, standing up (with assistance), reaching for things, taking your bath, cuddling with mama or daddy, bathtime, sitting up, being tickled, reading books, laughing, singing “if you’re happy and you know it”, playing in your exersaucer

Least favorite activities – being laid down on your changing table when you’re hungry, waiting to eat, having your face cleaned.  That’s pretty much it!  You are a happy little babyJ

Big moments in your eighth month of life – started solids, started using your sippy cup (although you really just play with it still), started babbling (mamama)

What you eat
  – Still nursing!  Like a little champ I might add.  You still eat about every three hours.

IMG_8264

How you sleep –  We were sleeping you on your tummy for naps for quite awhile, but then you started waking up because you’d roll over and hit the side of the crib.  So, we started swaddling you again, and you don’t seem to care either way!  Your naps have stretched back out a little bit since we started dropping your 4th one.  Sometimes you still take it if you’re really tired, but sometimes you are okay to skip it.  Your morning nap is the longest, usually about an hour and a half to two hours.  Your other naps are usually about an hour.  At night you sleep perfectly, going down at about 8:30 and sleeping until 7 or 7:30.  We still give you a dreamfeed at about 10:30, but you don’t really wake up for it.  It’s going to be really hard for me to give up that last feed…it’s my favorite time of night.

What you wear – Mostly 3-6 month, unless it’s a sweater, most of which seem to run big.

Diaper – Still wearing Bum Genius Freetime on the smallest setting.  Still loving them!

Favorite activities – Being lifted up in the air on your tummy, talking, eating, reaching for things, taking your bath, cuddling with mama or daddy, sitting in your highchair playing with kitchen utensils, bathtime, sitting up, being tickled

Least favorite activities – being laid down on your changing table when you’re hungry, waiting to eat.  That’s pretty much it!  You are a happy little baby!
