crazy days

What a crazy day it was over here!  So many changes happening with these little babies…I can hardy keep up!

Sissy finally decided she’s tired of sitting around watching Bubba explore everything.  She’s been able to crawl for about a week now, but she just didn’t quite have the motivation to do it much.  But today she really took off!  All those people that stop me on the street and say “you’ve got your hands full” – they are finally speaking truth!  Nothing cuter than our tiny girl army crawling from one end of the house to the other:)

In other news, we had to lower Linc’s crib mattress today.  I laid him down for his morning nap, and he had a little trouble getting settled in.  I heard him cry, so I picked up the monitor, only to see him standing up at the side of his crib!  It took a split second for me to get over how freaking cute he looked, and then I raced in to make sure he didn’t fall out on his head.

The days are getting busier now that everyone is on the move…but at the same time they’re getting more and more fun.  I love seeing them learn new things; the look of surprise on their faces when they do something new is priceless.  The days go by so fast, and I don’t even have time to think about being tired.  But by the time night comes and everyone is finally in bed, I’m ready to collapse.  Nevermind all the chores and work that still   need to be done.

No one ever said having one baby was easy, much less having two.  But those two have my heart and everything is so worth it!  Even when the dog bowls get dumped for the millionth time;)

Mama loves you, Linc and Viv!!

Oh, and just because I cannot get enough of him in this oversized baseball cap:

While you are pretty strong willed and you know what you want, you are also so laid back.  You will sit all by yourself on the floor and just play for the longest time.  It’s so cute!  You are still such a tiny little thing, and that is the 2nd thing people always comment on about you, right behind how big, blue and beautiful your eyes are.  While I really want you to gain weight and be healthy of course, I also have to admit I love how perfectly tiny you are.  You are just so so cute and sweet.

What you weigh – Your weight chart apparently got up and walked off the countertop – but I will find it…I will!

What you eat – Still nursing the same amount minus the dream feed.  Although you’ve stretched out your schedule to be about 4 hours between feedings now, which means your before bed nursing is only about an hour and a half after your dinner feeding.  So, I think we’ll probably be dropping one of those soon!  You’re eating habits change so much.  Some days I get worried because you literally will hardly eat anything.  Then the very next day you’ll eat great!  I would say most of the time you are definitely not a big fan of food in general.  You sort of act like it’s all just a big inconvenience, which is pretty funny but it also worries me because your weight gain hasn’t been great lately.  You are eating 3 meals a day now, so that may be why you’re eating less per meal as well.  Some new foods we’ve tried this month are chickpeas, black beans, split peas, cottage cheese, peaches, mango, quinoa, and several others.  You are still pretty picky, and your favorites are about the same – avocado with fruit and sweet potatoes.    You do like cottage cheese quite a bit too, but I try to limit it to just a little bit each day if that.  One other new development is that you have decided you don’t want to take a bottle anymore, which is not good.  I guess I got lazy and didn’t give them to you often enough, and now you just want nothing to do with them.  So, I guess we’ll continue to be connected at the hip until you stop nursing, which honestly is just fine with meJ  Let’s just hope I don’t have to leave you for any reason!

How you sleep – You are now sleeping from about 7:30 until about 7 – 7:30 am.  We just dropped your 3rd nap, so now you take one in the morning from about 9:45 to 11ish and one in the afternoon from about 2 until 3 or 3:30.  Honestly, your sleep has not been as great as it used to be.  You almost always wake up before Linc, and your naps have gotten increasingly shorter – sometimes only lasting about 40 minutes.  You still sleep great at night though, so I’m not complaining.  We are still swaddling you with one arm out.

What you wear – You wear 3-6 month clothes now, and we’ve expanded your shoe collection a bit as well.  Your feet are still so tiny, so shoes have to fit a certain way to get them to stay on your feet!

happy nine months, Vivi

Your daddy summed up my thoughts quite nicely this evening when he was holding you by saying “I am just so obsessed with her.”  I could hear that tinge in his voice that told me he was staring into your eyes and was seriously tempted to squeeze the daylights out of you.  I feel that a hundred times a day.  You are breathtakingly beautiful.  Your bright blue eyes and long eyelashes.  Your perfectly smooth skin and sweet little lips.  You are so precious.

What you weigh –12 lbs. 6.5oz.

What you eat – Still nursing full time.  You are doing better everyday with your solids.  You still make a face the first time we put pretty much anything in your mouth, including your favorites.  But you’re eating pretty well, and your weight gain shows it!  Your favorite foods are avocado mixed with a little bit of fruit and sweet potatoes.  I have to say – you are pretty picky.  I am taking it on myself to make you and bubba the best eaters possible by introducing as many new foods as I can.  But you are a stubborn little thing (like your mama) and if you don’t like it, you absolutely will not open your mouth.  Your least favorite things seem to be plain yogurt and lentils.  We’ll keep trying new things as much as possible, though, and hopefully with time you’ll start liking more and more.  Right now you are eating solids at lunch and dinner.  We’ll probably start eating breakfast sometime soon.

How you sleep – You are now sleeping from about 8 or 8:30 until 7:30 or 8.  Most days you take 3 naps.  Your naps are usually about and hour to an hour and a half, sometimes longer, sometimes a little shorter.  Your morning nap is usually on the longer side.  We are still swaddling you with one arm out.  This past week you’ve been on a bit of a nap strike.  You’ll sleep in your swing, but you just don’t want to be in your bed.  I think it may have something to do with teething maybe?  Either way, I’m assuming it’s just a phase, and things will be back to normal soon.

What you wear – You’re mostly wearing 3-6 now, with the occasional 0-3 in something that runs big.  The only shoe you wear is your pink converse…they are huge on your little foot, but because they’re hightops and they tie we make them work!

Diaper –  Bum Genius Freetime with one row of snaps left open in the middle.

Favorite activities – playing peek-a-boo, playing with my earrings (and anyone else who is wearing any), chewing on things, taking baths

Least favorite activities: having your face cleaned, being wrapped up in a towel when you get out of the bath, you don’t mind getting strapped into your carseat as much now because we took the thick padding out of it….but you still don’t like it per se.
Big moments in your fifth month of life –  first tooth, first family vacation, first time to the mountains, first big snow (in Colorado), started eating dairy (plain yogurt), slept in your own bed the entire night, started sleeping separately from bubba at night, gave up your dream feed, first trip to the zoo

One of the things I’m most excited about is seeing your personality emerge more and more.  Your likes, dislikes, personality quirks – I love seeing you become more and more you and discovering who you are.  You are precious, sweet baby, and the Lord has made you so special and unique, exactly how He wants you.  I want you to always believe that.  You are perfectly created by Him.  Your daddy and I adore you.  And you are going to do amazing things.

What you weigh –11 lbs. 5 oz.

What you eat – Still nursing full time.  And now you’ve started solids!  We started them just a few days into your eighth month.  At first you really didn’t want anything in your mouth. You’d make the worst (but cutest!) face every time I’d stick anything in your mouth.  All you wanted was to suck on your fingers.  I’d put a spoonful of food in your mouth, and like a reflex your fingers would go straight in your mouth.  It would make the biggest mess!  You did this for several weeks, and I would have to hold your little hand throughout your whole meal.  Finally, right about the time you turned 8 months, you stopped doing that. Your favorites foods are sweet potatoes, carrots and avocado with a little bit of apple mixed in.  WE’ve also tried green beans, peas, bananas, pears, barley, squash, plums, I’ve tried to do some baby led weaning with you, but you aren’t quite sure what to do with a piece of banana yet.  You sure like to play with it though!  So, we’re doing purees for now.  You are eating a lot more now than the first few weeks, but honestly you still act like you just don’t really want anything in your mouth, even your favorites will bring a look of disbelief on your face when they first go in.  You are a funny babyJ  Right now we are doing one meal a day around lunch time.

How you sleep – You are sleeping just perfectly.  You go down at about 8-8:30 each night and sleep until about 7 am.  I still pull you out of bed at about 10:30 and feed you, but you don’t wake up for it.  Most days you take 3 naps.  We’ve dropped your fourth one for the most part, but if we go out and you miss one during the day sometimes you’ll take it.   Your naps are usually about and hour to an hour and a half, sometimes longer, sometimes a little shorter.  Your morning nap is usually on the longer side.  We are still swaddling you with one arm out.

What you wear – You’re still wearing a mix of 0-3 and 3-6 depending on what it is. Pants are all 3-6 because of your giant diaper.  Onesies are 3-6 for the most part, although you can still technically wear your 0-3.  They are really getting too short, especially the sleeves, but I still put my favorites on your sometimes.  Sweaters and dresses are definitely still 0-3.  You are our perfectly tiny girl.

Diaper –  Bum Genius Freetime with one row of snaps left open in the middle.

Favorite activities – being tickled, sucking on your fingers, sitting up (!), playing with bubba, grabbing people’s faces, chewing on things, swinging, bathtime, hanging upside down, playing peek-a-boo

Least favorite activities: having your face cleaned, being wrapped up in a towel when you get out of the bath, getting strapped into your carseat

Big moments in your fifth month of life – started babbling consonants (m’s – mamamama), started using a sippy cup (really just playing with it stillJ), started solids, first snow

Dear Linc and Viv,

Yesterday was your first Valentine’s Day, and your daddy and I had so much fun loving on you extra much all day long.  You are the sweetest little parts of our lives, and we feel like the luckiest people alive to get to be your mama and daddy.

In the same way that we hope you feel loved beyond measure by us, we also always want you to know how much we adore each other too.  A long, long time ago before we even knew you would someday exist, I fell head over heels in love with your daddy.  I still remember the first time I ever met him and how I thought he was the cutest and funniest guy I had ever known.  It wasn’t long before I realized that he wasn’t just cute and funny, but also thoughtful, loyal, humble, sensitive and just plain cool.  It took him a little while to realize how amazing I was, but eventually he did;)  From that point on we knew that we never wanted to live without each other again.

To celebrate your first Valentine’s Day with you, we all went out for a family lunch at Whole Foods, and then once daddy got home we spent the evening cuddling with your new zebra and tiger and feeding you lots of good food like sweet potatoes and avocado!IMG_7671

Then after you went to bed, Daddy and I had our own little celebration.  We ate homemade pizza and cupcakes.  I gave daddy a new record and a print for the wall, and he gave me a new wallet and some fun polka dot shoes.  There was also lots of relaxing on the couch together and talking about how darn lucky we are to have each other and you.

In the past we might have gone out to a nice dinner or even stayed overnight at a hotel to celebrate, but this year was sheer perfection even though we never stepped out of the house.  The day you two were born, we discovered love for each other that we couldn’t even have imagined existed, all because we’re in awe of the fact that we created you together.

So, thank you sweet babies, for all the sweetness and depth you’ve brought by taking our family from 2 to 4.

There’s a lullaby I’ve been singing to you lately….when we cuddle during the day or when I rock you to sleep at night.  I hope it will always help you remember how deep our love is for you.

I love you a bushel and a peck
A bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck
A hug around the neck and a barrel and a heap
A barrel and a heap and I’m talkin’ in my sleep
About you, about you
‘Cause I love you a bushel and a peck
You bet your purdy neck I do

Love, Mama (and daddy too)
